perhaps the reason why society will be different is because we are not the ones who are going to define it. it has a life of its own and it defines us - we have little or no power to change the direction it's going and we are just carried along with the tide and the rest of humanity. none of us are really individuals and we are all conditioned by our environments whether we like it or not. maybe people break free of this sometimes? maybe. but most of the time we are just swept along by economic and social and ideological forces which may (may!) have their origins in individuals but have since acquired lives of their own and move independently of their ostensible creators, bringing millions of people along with them until their force is spent and new forces appear.
is society an organism? we all think we have some freedom of action but perhaps we are just like cells in a human body. constrained by the needs and wants of the larger society and never stray away from that. one step out of line and zap we are destroyed. just like an organism society does everything to stay alive and keep on going. value systems, morality, laws, customs, beliefs programme us all, like the nucleic acid within each cell, to keep in step. newly formed societies have a deep seated insecurity and a want for expansion and therefore are the most aggressive of all in the inculcation of its own values.
slept very little, for some reason, and woke up far earlier than i intended to. practised till fingertips peeled. life is lousier than ever, and i feel very very very very very sian for no reason at all.
