blogger.com updated itself again! the website format this time is quite cute-sy. maybe we shd gradually include more pple to blog on this site, then it'd become a class blog that'd never die! i think previously the class blog died cause pple blog on it only to talk about class stuff via blog. and therein you can see it's too weak a supply to create much of a demand. but if this is everyone's personal blog............... well it's impossible to actually get people to do that. but it is also a thought. (it is not illogical to communicate a possible statement of impossible content).

the iraq thing is very very sad... sigh when it comes right down to it i'm a pro-capital punishment guy (and i don't mean punish people by hurling machinery towards them -disclaimer: not intended to be a good joke- ). but sometimes the world just seems so screwed up with its nose-in-the-air punish-to-deter attitude. there was this article in Home recently where this woman who abetted her husband in the murder of this homeless old man received 3 years of jail and no lashes. The whole event ran sth like this: the couple robbed an old homeless guy for taxi fare home, the robbed guy complained that he's being bullied, and in a fit of anger the husband slashed him to death. so anyway the judge gave the wife 3 years although she abetted in the murder because the children need their mother... but it doesn't make sense. it's generalising 'mother'. surely the children want a mother in the true sense of the word. is the judge saying that the penal system does not reform prisoners while they're kept imprisoned, so there's no point imprisoning the mother further? let's take it logically
1. the judge is implying 3 years are needed to imprison the mother.
2. is there any magical number in 3? usually abetting murder gets you much more. if it's cause the children need the mother
3. the judge is saying the children needs a mother who's not completely reformed (due to insufficient imprisonment) or
4. the abetting in murder doesn't need more than 3 years to reform anyway. but if (4),
5. why do average abetters get so many years?
6. so we assume they NEED that many years. this mother doesn't. how did the judge know she doesn't? the only viable clue is that she said she's sorry about it.
7. who wouldn't if definitely guilty?
to conclude, either most prisoners who abet in murder overdo their time or the judge was giving the children an unrepentant mother or imprisonment doesn't change anything or saying you wish it didn't happen after you get caught is something virtuous.

tying it back to the iraqi thing... was talking about punishments too lenial... there was this soldier who was found guilty for murdering an iraqi and hence he was simply sacked from the army. considering the health risks of being a US soldier in iraq ISN'T THAT AN INCENTIVE?

yah it's such a sick world, but as long as people agree then it's not hopeless right. (the act defies the action)
