Had a wonderfully inspiring interview today! me and cha interviewed this HC alumni person who's currently a director of an investment company... and he was so non-hc in the way that he hardly studied when he was in hc, fails tests like nobody's business because he believes there's this trade-off between what you can do other than study and studying itself; so instead of mugging to be 101% certain of 4As like others do (people who can easily get those 4As still if they study less intensively) he just has fun doing stuff like cca activities :)
can identify with the do-other-things-asides-from-study attitude... i have been ponning maths lectures since last year term 2? except i don't spend the time gained on useful stuff like him... but even though the time is wasted i HAVE to take the risk, hope i can do well in spite of everything, because if i spend life just studying or even with study as this fixed component in my life i'd just curl up and die

hm lit is quite interesting and pops us in everyday life.
yesterday mel and tong and i were talking about music and i said to mel that analogising music to lit, Baroque is to Shakesperian works as Broadway is to poster bulletins. then we ended up yakking and i realised tong kai shared my view that modern (and especially postmodern) poetry tends towards being esoteric, as in full appreciation of it requires a higher degree of specialisation than is needed than, say, romantic or victorian poetry. i forgot what tong kai said but it made a lot of sense :l (maybe he'd repeat again in a blog entry) but i think literature devices, due to a self conceived need for innovation, tend towards the artificial, and also because in the past intelligentisia's consensus is more easily achieved in terms of stylistic devices as it's less broad based.
then today judith and i were talking about how empty absurd drama is, content generates ideas! without content ideas are nothing. the more openly articulated themes are the more superficial they would be.
