on the very eve of econs test i am being compelled to blog. not by kai, but by some other half. (WHY THE HELL AM I ALLOWING MYSELF TO BE COMPELLED?! AND BY HER OF ALL PEOPLE!) i, however, will humour her (and the people who still read this) with something reasonably lengthy. despite the fact that econs is tomorrow. (if i screw it up tomorrow char you'll pay!) not that people actually find my posts entertaining (that's kai's job. he writes the funny posts, i write the boring ones. in that way we maintain the equilibrium of the universe. and the word equilibrium reminds me of the mind boggling islm analysis.)
anyway today was GP!!! ok everyone knows. old news, yes, but i am a history student, after all. and anyway i happened to be the only guy on earth (except chim) who did the terrorism question. (she'd be horrified that i did the same question as her, i think, because she thinks i'm absolutely evil and refuses to have any association with me.) after inserting a great deal of irrelevant political commentary (like "this is simplistic naivete that president george bush would be worthy of" and "a simple point that many people in the administration are missing") i ended up with a long and rambly essay that kept pounding on a single point ad nauseum. mr perry will be so bored when he reads my essay.
and everyone thought passage 2 was extremely bad parody. i think this is a very sad reflection of singapore. (ok maybe because i have a liberal bias.) to quote judith, "but writing like that just makes him sound more singaporean!! a hardline one, though..." but i mean... hanging cigarette addicts?! to which zhipeng said, "well passage 1 does come close to suggesting that..." notice that conversations with the two of them tend to follow a pattern, somewhat.
which reminds me. the article that yuejer sent to hchumanz egroups (which had hitherto been dead for aeons) appears to be written by a rabid american rightwinger. discuss.
quote of the day (to pilfer an idea from chris' blog).
ZP: (on the way to chinese high) i lost one mark in my gp compre!!!
ME: wahlau kaobeh arh... one mark out of 50 die liao...
spent the rest of the day in school happily (or maybe not) trying to do econs. *glares* ok just joking haha. the glare, i mean.
and then in the library jr and i spent some time making judith prove the veracity of chau mui hoong's comments on rgs girls. (ok i think i am really asking to be lynched. oh well, heck.) it was really funny though. maybe it is mostly true after all. hahahahahaha.
and then spent some time getting really bright around assorted people. i swear, one day my filament will burn out.
and after school kai tried to explain to me how to plot a four dimensional graph. (fourth temporal, not spatial, dimension.) which i didn't understand at all. (in any case, i was tired, and distracted.) which is common whenever i speak to him, because he tends to think on another level, which i never seem to be able to reach.
went home banged toccata in d major on piano. nothing much got done. fun, though.
was just a moment ago listening to rachmaninov's second piano concerto, second movement (beautifully lyrical really) and happily trying to do econs. until ms. tan came along and told me to blog. whee. so here i am.
happy now?
PS had a talk with tiff about "pop classical" or "fusion classics". found out that we were both purists to the core, disdaining even some transcriptions. and yes, i think those fusion people are totally missing the point. like, for example, when grieg wrote his piano concerto, i think he was trying to make a point with a SOLO PIANO making a grand opening of the entire work. ADDING A BLEEDING TECHNO BEAT AND SOME NASTY ELECTRONIC SOUNDING MUSIC AS COUNTERPOINT IS PLAIN STUPID, AND MISSES THE POINT ENTIRELY. and maksim's flight of the bumblebee does not sound remotely bee-ish.
AND ABOVE ALL WE HATE POP ARTISTS WHO PILFER CLASSICAL TUNES FOR THEIR SONGS. A) THEY USUALLY DON'T ACKNOWLEDGE THE SOURCE B) IT SOUNDS BAD (TECHNO SUGARPLUM FAIRY?!?!?! ROCK MOZART?!?!?!) AND C) IT MISSES THE POINT!!!!!
and thus concludes my diatribe for today. thank you all, and have a good night.
