it's been some time (a few days!) and anyway i've started on medieval: total war again. (i hear junrong screaming in the background about his computer.) a really fun game, but one thing i absolutely cannot abide is that the computer cheats outrageously.

1) getting every other faction to declare war on you in an unprecedented 'grand alliance'. this happened to me once before and it took me more than half a century to consolidate my ground and then start reversing my early losses.
2) making your provinces revolt for no reason at all. having 20+ provinces in full revolt with massive peasant armies rebelling against you is not a pretty sight. in a single turn i lost control of 1/3 of my empire (including my capital city!) at a time when i was holding the line somewhere on the other side of the map with the enemy troops threatening to boil over the border any moment.
3) A/I cheating - having obviously more troops than what their economy can support. this is classic.

on the other hand i discovered that regicide is great fun. having invincible assassins is a good thing. they murdered 5 polish kings and then 4 french kings in a row. and to top it all off, the prince of novgorod as well.

block tests are approaching and it's no fun at all. still don't feel like mugging.

kai and i discovered the music of PDQ Bach recently, quite by chance, in the esplanade library. one of the lesser known sons of js bach (he had a great many children) his music is definitely very interesting indeed (eh kai? ;) ) with some very modern sounding elements. a must hear!
